Look out kids, there's new Monsters in town... It's The Monsters of Folk! A new super-group, comprised of Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes), M. Ward, and Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes). The self-titled debut is out on 9/22, but you can stream 3 songs right here, right now!
Jack Johnson, En Concert DVD/Album
Last year, Jack Johnson embarked on his largest tour ever, in Europe, in support of his most recent album "Sleep Through the Static". That tour is documented in a forthcoming live concert film and album called "En Concert", available 10/27.

WHAT'S NEW?
People always ask me what new stuff I'm listening to, what shows I've seen lately, what's coming up that I'm excited about, and usually the best I can do is give them a deer-in-the-headlights look, while I struggle to give a halfway intelligent answer. What can I say? It's an occupational hazard of music-junkies like me to become overwhelmed with TOO many things to rave about! So, I figured this would be a good place to share some of my current faves and raves, recommendations, and what-have-you. Not to mention, a place to send friends who ask me the dreaded question, "So, what's new?"
Enjoy!
- Carmel

IN THE KNOW: MAGAZINES, BLOGS, ETC.
Paste Magazine - by far, my favorite destination for reviews of everything hip - music, film, books, etc.
Rolling Stone - a no-brainer, I know.
MOJO Magazine - always fun to get the UK perspective.
Spin - almost as much of a no-brainer as Rolling Stone.
Pitchfork - indie-minded online 'zine, sometimes too hip for even the hippest of us, but hey, it gives us something to shoot for. Or at, as the case may be.
Stereogum - cool music blog. Cooler music. Awesome content. All in the spirit of discovery, I say.
Time Out New York - how do I know what's happening in the best city in the world? This is my go-to place for events & happenings in NYC. C'mon, people - it's less than two hours away!
CARMEL'S BIO:
Carmel has always been a music addict, with an insatiable appetite and passion for new music. Her love of DJ’ing started at a young age in her room, with a turntable and a stack of her sister’s Beatles records. When her parents gave her a Radio Shack rack system for her 5th birthday, she discovered FM radio, and has listened obsessively ever since. A life-long student of music, Carmel grew up singing and playing the piano, and received a BA in music composition and vocal performance at Bard College in 1994, where she first heard radio station WDST. A short year and a half later, Carmel joined the WDST staff, and has been working there ever since. Carmel is the Music Director and Midday host at WDST. She also hosts and programs Acoustic Breakfast (Saturday, 7a-9a), focusing on new acoustic releases, plus interviews and live performances.
